"Green Gate" - functioning water fountain on Redwood chainsaw carving

This big boy was installed 26 Jan 2026, been a few years since I’ve seen or been around this piece. Originally built for my buddy Kenny his cannabis farm (replicate property/farm). This water fountain from time of build till now performs perfectly! No leaks a little squeak from the water wheel but that’s giving life and sound to this piece.

Presently showing at the “Art Center Space” located in old town Eureka 620 2nd street. Stop in and say hi to Monica and Liam and of course the hounds.

Thailand 2026!

Can’t believe another road trip to Thailand, home of smiles. Love the place so mellow, peaceful. Loving people everywhere. Chicken and rice I’m thinking is what’s for chow. Start back in BKK or Bangkok less than 30 days. Think I’ll be focusing on “people draws” this trip. Taiwan people cooking stuff up were contagious sketch objects. Bangkok should be perfect. Chiang Mai another good spot to hang the hat once again. Enjoy the winter in Thailand north.

Rockin the Guitarbige is back!

First snippet for the 2nd ever “Rockin the Guitarbige” Art show to be determined where and when. First show in 2019 proved to be a huge success and gained much public attention. Especially with the public voting “Peoples choice award” of some 30 odd guitars.

“Guitarbige” are guitar pieces, mainly the bodies but to include necks as well. These pieces did not make the professional cut in the music world. Some may have little flaws or a tree limb area. Imprefections. Wildwood Mfg in Arcata has given these as a really nice gift. So with that said we will be giving out guitar bodies and necks to those interested in participating in show yet to be determined.

Conditions upon receiving “guitarbige”.

1) Person has to show their artwork at show.

2) Guitar piece CAN NOT be played as a functioning guitar instrument. Each artist is encouraged to apply their magic. At end of show you are free to keep pieces.

Two bodies per person, necks are limited so one neck per person while quantities last.

If interested please contact me via this site and will set up pick up arrangements.

Dec Arts Alive! Post show stats

Though I wasn’t the featured artist for this months Arts Alive at “The Space” I did however serve up a mean cup o vino, toss in a couple frosty ones. Was a good time for sure. Nice to see a large amount of people movement in and around old town. My favorite art piece for this months Arts Alive? Go directly to Morris Graves, upstairs to the right is a Jim McVickor painting. Best show in town! Thanks for all the continued and new support. It is appreciated. Thank you.

Prague - Berlin did someone say Road trip? Again? Yessir!

Interesting trip, SFO to Frankfurt then Prague for some working holiday routine kinda thing. Stayed in Prague 10 days same place and metro’d around town, very easy only three lines. Grannies swilling beer from big mugs at 10 not uncommon. Great Gothic, Renaissance to present. Very challenging for the daily draw but well worth it. You just have to motate and motivate. The sketch won’t sketch itself.

Decided to skip Munich due to high cost of staying in hotels with Octoberfest, no need to visit puking hill if I don’t need too. So I trained it up 5 hours or so to Berlin and stayed right downtown for first four days. The U & S Bahn train lines a bit more extensive than Prague. The S-Bhan which is mostly above gound much easier to navigate. The history that awaits you anywhere in Berlin is pretty amazing. You just have to put your walking shoes on and get to walking. I found my first stumbling stones or Stolperstein stones out along the Spree river. Best part was ripping around Berlin downtown in the Berlin Hotrods. Small one person gas powered cars that are legal and licensed. For 90 minutes of pure bliss and the smell of burnt rubber, priceless!

Lastly made a two week stop back in Iowa where I grew up to see Mom who isn’t doing the best. So a son talk fest with myself and brother we had a great time under the circumstances.

Travel while you still can, time catches up on you faster than you think. Now where did I put that currywurst and Berliner?! Enjoy!

Scott Hemphill - Featured Artist!

You heard it first here, I will be featured Artist at “The Space” for September 6, 2025 Arts Alive. Show will consist of pen and ink sketches of my most recent trips around the world. Vancouver Island up close and personal See Vancouver the City, how different it is compared to the island. Hawaii, beach going on Oahu. Kilauea blowing up on the Big Island. Then a few weeks in Taiwan, forget about using silverware better get used to chop sticks! Great trip, lots of cool art from three very different places in the world. Show is free and we will have refreshments! Show runs up till November 2025.

Big City Racing #10!

Holy heck how did that happen? Week ten of the most famous of “Hemp Cruisers” never ever seen in public till now. Get em before their gone, cuz once their gone their gone. Only one the only one. Original art that no one not even me can replicate. Get yours today!

Hemp Cruisers - The Nine Show #9 #9

This Cruiser like most works of Art take a life of their own. From the cool wavey curves on this build came the rest and kinda looks like a surf van of some sort, and that is okay too. #9 will be smoking the tires for one week, one week only. On deck is Dragster City #10, pure Mopar!

Hemp Cruisers #5

Hemp Cruisers week Five continues! Time flies that fast. Car #5 up and running front window display for all your great curbside viewing, no admission charged. Free all day long, night too. Also did a quick change out and put in “My Whales” two copper whales swimming. This is from private collection and is not for sale. However I foresee a new copper whale coming to life.

Hemp Cruiser #2 week 2 of fourteen week show, say that one five times fast!

Smell the burnt rubber all the way across the street to Fish & Game, old town Eureka. As promised the Hemp Cruiser run continues. With the Daytona 500 in the rear view this one is in the Front View! Act now don’t wait fore it may be too late and gone in 60 seconds!

2025 has arrived with a bang

Unfortunately it hasn’t been the best of weeks, buddies best friend seeing eye dog Releve unexpectedly died day before NYE, what a serious bummer. So I took a bit of down time to reflect but also to know this hound would of said “get your ass back to work” so I have been, slowly. “Humboldt Freedom” trike sculpture is close to completion but when you add a rider you add that much more time and effort. Let the piece decide where it goes, you will know when it’s time to say “when”. Enjoy the ride, 2025 has arrived!

Finish the year with a copper sculpture! Watch "Humboldt Freedom" be built from ground up

Idea was simple, build a 70’s style trike chopper, knucklehead engine. Figure out all the rest along the ride. Ordered race slicks and motorcycle kids toy tires for a perfect burn out kinda sculpture. Of course as all pieces they take a life of their own and this one has as well. A three belt drive system? Humboldt Belt Co. supplied all the necessary belts to make the “Humboldt Freedom” fly like the wind. Check out the “as we build” show. Build continues till finished. So check back in once in awhile and see the progress. Goal have this racer rolling by Christmas. Thanks for stopping by.
