Two Daily Draws yesterday before my shift at the Ironside Gallery. With idle time figured I'd put it to good use. Eureka theater was the first of the day, signage is correct and accurate. Then to The Schooner & Shanty.
Thanks to my buddy Phil today, we had breakfast, then I challenged him to the elusive "15min Draw". He was game, we busted out four new sketches, one over looking the cemetery of Ferndale. Fernbridge, the only remaining bridge from ALL the NORCAL floods since install, over something like 100yrs. Fortuna & Hydesville, need some hay?
Awesome day! Great draw on all, capture today fore its gone tomorrow.
Bite Style? What the hell is that. True story walking along the beach, one woman & her dog she on the cell phone the dog on me literally! Dog jumped and bit me on the left wrist as the woman so politely says to the person she's speaking to "my dog just bit someone", WTF! If you have dogs, maintain them. OUT!!
That's right, Cowboy Roy, bigger than life grabbed a ride all bundled up in a makeshift rain poncho headed for Arcata, CA. Ironside Gallery located at 900 9th, his present home for the next month. Stop on by and say "Howdy" & drop 2 bits in his shot glass.
Revamped "Aquarium" is BACK!!! All you fish lovers the school recently relocated back to Arcata after a good feed at Cafe Nooner in Old Town Eureka. New on this show is the "Shark Birds", no BS on these boys plus a new and cool defined but moveable waterline.
Then of course theres "Cash Is King", "The Blastinator", "Wally's Secret Stash" & "Driftwood" three buildings, Bank, Saloon, Jail, you get the picture.
Arts Arcata Friday Oct 14, 2011 - 6-9PM, see you there.
Cheers ~ Scott
Introducing a new speicies of bird, the Shark Bird. These birds came from a day kayaking on Humboldt Bay, no camera only visual memories. From this I did a couple sketches of birds sitting on pilings sticking out of the water. This morphed into what is now the legendary Shark Bird. Only sited in Northern California's Humboldt Bay region no other sitings have been reported anywhere else in the world. Upon further inspection one will note these birds have only one foot, and in some cases many have been seen sporting a "peg leg". Scientists believe the birds fight amongst themselves and sometimes take a bite out of each other so to speak.
This new and unique speices will be making their home at the Ironside Gallery starting Oct 2011, stop by and take a gander.
Two 15min Draws were done downtown Arcata, CA 28 Sep 2011. Tavern Row was a challenge with so much to try and capture in less than 15. Jacoby Storehouse presented many problems with all the decorative stuff on the building, great draw, great day!

Thank you to everyone involved in my recent showing located in old town Eureka - Cafe Nooner. Over sixty hanging pieces were shown during this time virtually walking into an aquarium suitable for humans with no SCUBA. The "Aquarium" will relocate back to Arcata's newest and baddest art galleries - Ironside Gallery for my feature show starting early October 2011, swim on by for your catch.
15 Minute Draw kiced off today with two accomplished drawings by myself, two others by Marisa Sutter, her first ever draw. This is FUN, when was the last time YOU took the time to cut loose and have fun? 15 Min Draw does this, go out, find something appealing to draw and do it, everyone in group including instructor draws. Addicting? Hell yes! Draw Now, see updates for locations of "Future Draws".
Excellent day to be out and about, convinced a long time buddy to the 15minute sketch challenge. We set out in San Francisco's North Beach area. From there I decided on the first of four sketches for the day. Once the Mama's sketch was complete we moved on until my buddy JJ decided on draw #2, kind of an alley way with stairs? Done, moved on to #3, this was from the sixth floor of a parking garage directly across from SF Chronicle, JJ's second choice, done. We set out for more sketches and settled on Lori's since it offered us a recluse of shelter on the street to rip our sketch. Great fun!
Yep, it's true all that home security yakity yak crap this and that, get one of these babies, home protection, sheez, not a problem with this new addition, welcome to the 500 club, "The Blastinator" that is! Guaranteed to dust anything within 50yds, pesky neighbors, dogs, kats or lizards? Ka Blam!
Recent kayaking trip out into Humboldt Bay I purposely forgot my camera, goal was to draw from memory of my trip. Not all birds depicted are true to bird form and the newly found spieces of "Shark Bird" wow! The Tsunami Bird Alert system has yet to be tested.
Update on the Gallery's status is this, we're currently under renovation and will be back on line Aug 23, 2011. Any artists looking to show should call the gallery or stop by, drop off date is Sunday Aug 21, 2011.
Cafe Nooner located Old Town Eureka, CA has a new residence in stock so to speak, a school of fish that is. "The Aquarium Swam Away" has relocated and will be home from Aug thru the end of Sep 2011. Please stop in for a bite to eat and get swept away by your favorite sea creature.
Driftwood, USA officially completed today, Bank, Saloon & Jail, we can all relate I'm sure. Sculpture came from multiple sketches I did prior to build. From maybe 10 sketches I took the best pieces and made the sculpture what is today. The pistol on the side of the bank is my interpretation of retreiving money from local ATM machines in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. Nothing like someone watching your back. Swingin doors - every saloon should have and jail w/key drop!
Wow, the fishing has been pretty good lately, having replenished the supply of fish the first week of July I thought I was good to go, but sales have been good, guess I need a sign that says "Gone Fishin".
Thank you all for the continued support, love talking to all of you, Scott.
Ironside Gallery Update: ARTS ARCATA Friday July 8, 2011, come check out "The Aquarium - Replenished" call in the Sub Dudz to support a little bitty sub nice. Fish swimming on wood bases very cool.
This recent piece "Wally's Secret Stash" was a favorite sketch I had ripped awhile back and in seeing it again I decided to make my attempt in sculpture in another "story board piece". Taking from my Antarctica experience a very long time ago I was able to come up with the rough sketch. Wally is a mirror image of the sketch only thing missing is the bow tie, how could I forget that!
Ironside Gallery was hopping, lots of people stopping by showing support. Great evening, thank you all for the great conversations, S
